Lesson Plans
Some of the Tennessee curriculum standards may be out of date depending on when the lesson plan was developed by our staff. We will try to update old lesson plans to match current standards. Lesson Plan #1: Teaching History through Archives
Lesson plans for Grades 3-5 using materials from the Albert Gore Research Center’s Veterans Oral History Collection and Marion Skeen Coleman Peck Exhibit and Collections. Downloadable plans with links to research center materials and additional notes and resources.
Lesson Plan #2: Women in World War II
This lesson plan consists of five packets filled with primary sources about women’s roles during World War II. Each packet has a corresponding worksheet. Most of the primary sources in this lesson plan come from the collections at the Albert Gore Research Center. This activity was designed for 5th graders, but also works well with high school students. More difficult analytical questions can be made for older age groups. This lesson helps with analyzing primary sources, reading comprehension and literacy, critical thinking, and learning about women’s involvement in the war efforts.

Lesson Plan #3: Louise Mott Miles
Inspired by the life of Louise Mott Miles, this curriculum packet is designed for use in a 5th grade classroom to familiarize students with many aspects of the Progressive Era.
