Movement 68: Honoring 50 Years of Black Student Activism
Created in 2019, this exhibit explores the fifty-year history of Black student protests against Confederate imagery on MTSU’s campus since 1968. It includes photographs, video, audio, and documents from the Albert Gore Research Center’s university and political collections.
The History of Political Songs and Jingles in Tennessee
Created in 2012 and expanded in 2014, this exhibit was curated by John Fabke and Kent Syler, and is also a collaboration between the Center for Popular Music. In a state with such a rich musical heritage, it seems natural that music has played an important role in Tennessee politics. We invite you to explore the many facets of political songs and jingles in Tennessee and American history.
Atomic Appalachia: the History of Oak Ridge, Tennessee
Curated in July 2018 by Mary DePeder (the Bart Gordon Papers Summer Intern), this exhibit discusses the political, social, and environmental history of Oak Ridge, Tennessee using the congressional papers of Congressmen Albert Gore, Sr. and Bart Gordon, as well as a few of the Gore Center’s oral histories.
Women with Wings: The Tennessee Ninety-Nines
Created in March 2018 by graduate assistant Kelsey Lamkin, this exhibit explores the history of The Ninety-Nines, an international organization for women pilots. The exhibit highlights activities from the Tennessee chapter from the 1940s to the 1970s. Lamkin curated the exhibit using The 99s Collection, part of the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame Records housed at the Gore Center.
The Great Society Congress
The Gore Center contributed to this collaborative project with the Association of Centers of the Study of Congress (ACSC). This exhibit explores the central role that the 89th Congress played in the construction of the Great Society and reveals how some of the most impactful pieces of legislation in American history were debated and shaped.
The Life of Louise Mott Miles
Created in 2013, this online exhibit compliments the former on-site exhibit on Miles that was displayed in the Gore Center research room. This exhibit interprets her life as a dedicated educator and craftswoman.
Tennessee Historypin Collection
Created in 2013, this exhibit was curated by Dr. Mary Hoffschwelle’s Tennessee History Honors class. Our Historypin collections feature documents, photographs, ephemera, and other material from our university and regional history collections.
