Biographical Note: The training school was conducted on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University and was sponsored by the Trade and Industrial Education section of the Tennessee Division of Vocational education, and other agencies. The program was designed to help meet the training needs of all fire-fighters regardless of the type of department with which they serve. Each half day the conference opened with a one-hour session in the auditorium. Outstanding speakers discussed some major aspect of fire prevention and control. After the general session, the participants went with their assigned group for classroom or field activities. In each course, one or more of the manuals developed by the International Fire Service Training Association was used as a basis for course content. Each course was set up for twenty-seven hours of instruction and fourteen hours attendance was required to receive a certificate.

Scope and Content: These papers cover the principle activities concerned with the Annual Tennessee Fire School. Included herein are annual reports, training booklets, class notes, information bulletins, and books related to fire service training and the school's operation from 1944 through 1967.
