Biographical Note: The Rutherford County Historical Society was organized on December 17, 1970. Its primary purpose is to discover, procure, and preserve the facts, articles, or documents that relate directly or collaterally to the natural, aboriginal, civil, political, military, literary, industrial, agricultural, and ecclesiastical history of Rutherford County, Tennessee.
For over twenty years, the RCHS regularly issued numbered publications that provided historical information on many facets of Rutherford County. The Society’s newsletter, Frow Chips, has been produced since 1971 and continues to this day. The RCHS has a board of directors and general membership is open to all persons. Monthly meetings are currently held ten times a year with an annual banquet in November. For more information, visit the RCHS website.

Scope and Content: All photographs are stored in the RCHS Photo Collection and have been scanned for easier viewing. There are regular photos as well as several slide show presentations created by the RCHS, which document historical homes, businesses, and landmarks in Rutherford County. Most of the slides have been arranged in their original presentation order with accompanying scripts. There are also slides that were not received in any particular order or presentation and they have been combined to form the last group of slides.

Associated Materials: Slide show scripts and information can be found within the Albert Gore
Research Center’s photograph holdings.
