While living in Nashville, Mrs. Gilbert was an associate teacher of piano in the Music Department of Peabody College and taught a large private class in Shelbyville, Tennessee. During the summer of 1960, she toured as a member of the Notables Trio under the auspices of Alkahest Celebrity Bureau through the southeastern states and continued performing with Douglas Williams through 1961.

Mrs. Gilbert also served as an instructor in Piano and German at Middle Tennessee State College during the 1950s and 1960s. Mrs. Gilbert was the founding president of the Tennessee chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German. She died on April 10, 1996.
