Biographical Note: Hobart Parish worked in the Clarksville and, later, Murfreesboro Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps as a surveyor from 1934 through 1939. He credits training and encouragement that he received from the head engineer during his CCC experience for his eventual hiring as a Rodman with the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Murfreesboro Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp jumped on Johnnie Corbitt’s application when they learned that he could play baseball! He enrolled at the end of 1940 at the age of 17 and worked assisting farmers with soil conservation efforts, surveying land for fence lines, and running the camp laundry until March of 1942. He also served as an active duty U.S. Army pilot in World War II and Korea, graduated from Austin Peay and obtained a Master of Arts from Peabody, married, raised three children, and taught for 26 years at Madison High School.
